We began our adventures by attending a concert. David Bazan and Me Without You played at the Masquerade. It was a great show. I've been listening to Pedro the Lion/David Bazan since middle school, and that was the first time I had ever seen him live. I was going to see him five years ago, but the people I went with took a little long to get ready, so we missed him. Both performances were excellente.
Our second trip was up to Chattanooga, Tennessee. We met up with my friend Jamie from the Army, who I was with in Korea and Missouri. We started our day by walking around until we got hungry. Once hunger set in we had the dilemma of choosing where to eat. We walked up and down the streets until we finally decided to satisfy our hunger at Chee Burger Chee Burger. It is not fast food. At least that is what the sign said on the wall...and the clock said the same thing, as it took a while for our food to come. It was ok. After lunch we headed up to Ruby Falls. Ruby Falls is an underground water fall that was discovered in the early 1900's. Even though Jamie and I were officially out of the Army, all three of us were still able to get a $2 military discount.
Waiting for the elevator ride down, we met a small group of Koreans. They were skeptical at first that I just got back from Korea, but after impressing them with my toddler level Korean, and using my limited knowledge of northern South Korea geography, their doubts were extinguished.
The elevator took us a couple hundred feet underground, and then we had a nice little stroll to the falls. As you approach the falls, you're surrounded by darkness. Then the fall is illuminated by some lights right at the bottom, and enchanting music fills the air. Very romantic. We took some pictures and then headed out.
Side note: all power at Ruby Falls is solar power.
We had dinner at Mellow Mushroom. A nice young man, who looked like Mario's (the Italian plumber) cousin, complimented my mustache. It made the past 3 months all worth it. We were going to catch a Chattanooga Lookout's game, a minor league baseball team, but rain was on the way, so we headed home.
